Demodesk developed the first entirely web-based Screen Sharing application. No downloads or extensions are required for anyone. Host and participants can join by just clicking a link with any device, browser, and firewall. And, participants can collaborate in real-time. Simply spoken, we are making Google Docs out of any web-based content.

Screen Sharing is a revolutionary, location-defying technology

With the rise of remote teams and ever-increasing customer expectations, it’s no surprise that the demand for collaboration software is skyrocketing. Global Market Insights suggest collaboration software will be worth more than $8.5 billion in the next 5 years.

Screen Sharing enables remote collaboration, inside sales and instant support without the hassle and cost of traveling. You want to present software, document or website exactly as it displays on your screen? You want to provide guidance to customers by virtually peering over their shoulder. Or you want to collaborate remotely in real-time? Screen Sharing Software here you are.

Complicated Screen Sharing

Even though Screen Sharing is one of the most essential collaboration tools in the modern workplace, it’s still inherently complex and has not yet arrived in the cloud age.

Why? "Can you see my screen yet?" You ask your silent meeting participants while scrambling to turn on Do Not Disturb before your colleague’s Slack message pops up. At the same time, you feel incredibly embarrassed for your messy desktop. Because there are 20+ browser windows that are open at the same time. If you work in inside sales, you know the dangers of sharing your desktop screen — your naked, interior world, that is — before unsuspecting customers.

Online meeting providers like Joinme or Screenleap provide web-based access on the participant’s side. However, the presenter is still required to download a program or install a browser extension. Participants are still facing issues when using less modern browsers or operating firewalls. And, content can only be shared by streaming your local desktop screen.

State of the art Desktop Sharing

Let’s get a bit more technical here to uncover the root cause: Today, Screen Sharing always refers to local desktop sharing. To do that you have to install an application on your local device that records a video of your local desktop screen. This video is being uploaded to a server in the cloud via a constant stream. Participants receive the video stream in turn by downloading it from that server, again in a constant stream.

Sounds extremely inefficient? In fact, it is.

And it gets even more inefficient. Since all content is moving to the cloud ultimately — be it documents, software applications, or the entire infrastructure. There is no need anymore for sharing your local desktop screen. It’s like taking an unnecessary detour.

Screen Sharing Software

Screen Sharing software has been invented over 15 years ago by a smart man named James Hansen. Since then, there have been multiple providers offering Screen Sharing functionality in different forms and flavours.

The most notable advancement has probably been the ability for participants to join meetings directly from their browser – without having to download an application to their local device.

But the core technology hasn’t changed since then. The host is still required to share his local desktop to present or collaborate with participants. Users with Safari, Internet Explorer or stricter firewalls are still facing technical difficulties in joining meetings. And transmission lags make users constantly realize that remote collaboration is not the same as sitting next to each other.

Other Screen Sharing apps require a local desktop. We’ve eliminated that entirely through the use of cloud-based virtual desktops. This makes for a cleaner, easier, and simpler Screen Sharing experience – 100% web-based Screen Sharing.

No downloads or extensions are required. Anyone can join by just clicking a link with any device. For example, you can join through your mobile or tablet. Moreover, you can access it with any browser: Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer. Demodesk works through strict firewalls. And, participants can collaborate in real-time. Simply spoken, we are making Google Docs out of any web-based content.

Share websites or documents

We provide you with a virtual display on which you can share websites, apps, slides, or documents. The virtual display works like a "third screen" that you share between you and your customer(s).

It runs entirely separate from your local desktop. No need to turn off Slack notifications, hide Salesforce notes, or clean up your desktop background.

Participants can join with any browser, device, and firewall

Anyone can join the meeting by just clicking a link. Furthermore, you don't need to download any extensions. Demodesk is 100% web-based Screen Sharing and works with any device (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer down to version 9, Edge). Real-time, lag-free collaborative browsing, and editing

By default, you as a presenter fully control the virtual Screen Sharing display. You can share control with multiple parties at the same time for lag-free collaborative browsing and editing. Imagine making a Google Doc out of any web-based content – that's how our virtual display works.

Moreover, the transmission is significantly faster than with traditional technologies. We eliminate lags by synchronizing transmission to all participants with our unique virtualization algorithm.

Preload presentation content and seamlessly switch between tabs

By using a virtual display and not sharing your local desktop screen, we have new possibilities to help you automate repetitive manual processes and work more efficiently. Demodesk lets you create meeting templates. That way, you can automatically load slides, websites, apps, and documents at the meeting start. Seamlessly switch between different types of content for professional meetings with minimal preparation time.
